Our brand new Intermediate Kayaking course is designed to take your
boating to the next level. We'll work on placing your boat in rapids,
managing your angle and speed to run drops, making combat rolls and using
your paddle more effectively. This course includes two nights of
intensive practice at Lock 32 and two days on the Slippery Rock Creek in
McConnell's Mill State Park in Pennsylvania. The Slip, as it's
affectionately known, is a five mile stretch of river through a beautiful
gorge that winds through boulders and over ledges. It's challenging
enough to keep advanced boaters entertained and friendly enough to step up
your paddling.
Additionally, there are two sections of river that
we'll run with trail access to most points on the river, making it easy to
choose your challenge. The first section will be a small step up from
Lock 32 (Class II-III) and the second (Class III) is a bit more of a
challenge for those who are interested. This trip will be dependent on
river conditions and may be moved to a different river or
rescheduled if nature fails to cooperate. Food and camping for the
weekend are included in this course, but transportation and camping gear are
not.
If you have any questions, please contact
Paul Twist at 585-586-4330.
Prerequisite: All participants must be able to swim and have taken the Introduction to
Kayaking course or its equivalent. In addition, you'll get the most
out of this course if you've spent enough time at Lock 32 to feel
comfortable running all of the drops.
