Genesee Waterways (GWC) Code of Conduct

 

GWC program participants, coaches, staff and Board members represent GWC, and thus must maintain a high standard of conduct.  In following this code of conduct, you contribute to a team culture focused on support and respect for one another.

GWC is committed to a policy of equal employment opportunity and participation in all its programming.  GWC does not discriminate in the terms, conditions, or privileges of employment and program participation on account of race, age, color, sex, national origin, physical or mental disability, or religion or otherwise as may be prohibited by federal and state law.

GWC maintains and supports an inclusive work and programming environment.

RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND FOR THE ROWING AND KAYAKING COMMUNITY.

We will treat others with respect and refrain from making negative comments about coaches, program participants, administrators, or spectators.  We will not disparage other clubs in the rowing and kayaking community. We will neither engage in nor encourage conduct that is detrimental to GWC. 

SAFETY AND RESPECT FOR COACHES, COXSWAINS AND INSTRUCTORS. 

We will adhere to all safety guidelines.  We will respect, listen to and obey coaches, coxswains and instructors – at the boathouse, Lock 32, on the water and at regattas.

COMPETITION

In competition as well as off the water, we will adhere by the rules and demonstrate good sportsmanship, no matter the outcome.  We will respect course officials during all competitions and abide by their decisions.

RESPECT FOR THE TEAM

We will attend practices and programs that we commit to and do our best to arrive on time.  We will treat with others with respect, kindness, and encouragement.

LANGUAGE

We will not use profane, insulting, or offensive language or gestures.

EQUIPMENT/PROPERTY

We will take proper care of GWC owned, leased and borrowed equipment (boats, kayaks, canoes, oars, etc.) and property (boathouse, grounds, docks and trailers). We will report any equipment/property damage when it occurs or is noticed. We will maintain all grounds in a clean manner.

PROMPT PAYMENT OF MONEY OWED

We will respect GWC’s invoicing and deadlines for payment of any program, membership or regatta fees.

GWC reserves the right to dismiss for the day, suspend, and or permanently dismiss any program participant or staff member for violating the Code of Conduct or Safety Rules.  Coaches and Instructors have the right to dismiss a participant for the day or from a scheduled activity for safety reasons and/or violating the Code of Conduct.

                  In the case of a suspension, the coach or administrator would present the case to the GWC Board of Directors for final action.
